EXPERIENCE NUTRITION: Quick Steel Cut Oats
QUICK AND EASY Steel Cut Oats with Your Favorite Nuts and Berries
Steel cut (Irish) oats are one of the best and simple breakfast grains. Simply, steel cut oats are whole oat kernels chopped into small pieces. Relative to rolled oats which are processed and flatten, steel cut oats are lower on the glycemic load. Steel cut oats digest more slowly than rolled oats (and instant oatmeal), so your blood sugar remains stable.
Steps to quickly prepare your oats.

- 2 ½ cups water
- 1 cup of your favorite nuts and berries (such as almonds, pistachios, walnuts, goji berries, Incan berries, Hunza raisins)

Simple Steps

Hi,
This looks great. would love to cook steel cut oats in rice cooker but mine I don't think shuts off on its own. if not, roughly how long did you cook them for? I would set it to Porridge I think.
thanks!
sue
Hi Sue, Steel cut oats are the best...I use about 1 cup of oats with a little more than 2 cups of water, and love to add nuts, seeds, raisins and cinnamon. After you bring the oats, nuts and seeds to a boil, bring your heat down to a simmer, and cook for about 15-20 minutes. Enjoy! Melanie
